What is Reiki?

Reiki is...

image14

A holistic method of stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality in the form of “universal life energy”, and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. Reiki can be translated and broken down into two words. "Rei" means "universal energy" and "Ki" is an individual’s "life force".

A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit. It creates many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing.

Reiki is not a substitute for other appropriate medical or emotional treatment. Reiki healing energy can be shared with others, as well as anything else that you can imagine, including pets and plants!

History

A Japanese man named Mikao Usui discovered the healing art of Reiki during a spiritual experience while meditating on Mt. Kurama in Japan in the early 1900’s. He began using this method of healing for others, and in turn a few people became interested in learning this healing art. Through a series of attunements and practice, Reiki was taught to Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata.

Mrs. Takata is most known for bringing Reiki to the United States. Since Reiki reached the United States, its practice has grown rapidly.

Reiki is spiritual in nature, but it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and you do not need a specific belief system in order to learn and use Reiki. Reiki can be practiced by any person of any creed who chooses to be attuned, and anyone can enjoy the benefits of Reiki without being attuned.
